Building the Interceptor

How a Ford XB Became a Movie Legend  ·  Gold Coast

Before it was the most feared car on the post-apocalyptic highway, it was simply a Ford. The Mad Max Interceptor started life as an ordinary XB Falcon Coupe — and the story of how it became a global icon is as good as the movie itself.

The XB Falcon Coupe was already a handsome, capable Australian muscle car. What turned it into the Interceptor was attitude: an aggressive front spoiler, side pipes, blacked-out everything, and the unmistakable supercharger punching up through the bonnet. Each addition pushed the car further from showroom and closer to nightmare — a machine built to look as dangerous as it drove.

"Take a good Australian muscle car, strip away the manners, and you've got the Interceptor."

An Aussie Original

What's easy to forget is how distinctly Australian the Interceptor is. The XB Falcon was designed and built here, which means the most famous movie car on earth has Aussie engineering at its core. That local DNA is a huge part of why fans feel such a connection to it — it's our car, on the world stage.

Our Tribute to the Legend

Our Interceptor honours that build faithfully: the 351 Cleveland V8, the belt-driven supercharger, and the full movie-spec body kit. It's the centrepiece of the collection, and the detail rewards a close look — the kind you can only really appreciate standing right next to it.
