Holden Monaro GTS 327

Year
1968
Engine
327ci (5.4L) Chevrolet V8
Induction
Twin 4-barrel carbs
Factory Output
Approx. 250 hp

The top of the Monaro range when it launched in 1968, pairing a Chevrolet V8 with an Australian-built coupe. It won Bathurst in its debut year and became a symbol of Aussie motoring.

Our Car

This 327 is a beast. Twin 4-barrel carburettors on a hi-rise manifold make enough power to spin the wheels in every gear. You'd want a special licence to even consider driving it.

Holden's answer to Ford's GT Falcons. The HT GTS 350 was built to win at Bathurst, and it did exactly that in 1969.

Our Car

One of the 680 built so the model could race at Bathurst. The wheel arches were flared early in its life, and it's since been painstakingly rebuilt to original spec with a blueprinted motor. Apart from some work on the front seats, the interior is as original as possible.

Proof you didn't need a V8 for a proper sports coupe. The six-cylinder GTS paired the hotter 186S engine with GTS badging, stripes and a luxurious interior.

Our Car

Driven by its original owner and his wife, then lent by their son to a pair of country nuns, who drove it until around 1981. When someone noticed the registration had expired in 1979, it was parked in a hay shed in St George, Western Queensland. The current owner bought it in 2010, fitted electronic rust protection and kept it in a Cocoon airflow storage system until now.

This unicorn is factory throughout, still wearing its original paint and hubcaps. It's about as close as you'll get to how it rolled off the production line.
